Katelyn McCarthy and Michael Halstead met in September of 2014. They were both working new jobs and living in a new city. Katelyn was working as a nurse, and Mike was starting his residency. Katelyn was working on a general internal medicine floor and caring for the same patient. Mike placed orders for discharge and Katelyn disagreed. She called him and he ran up to argue with her in person. When he saw her he was speechless. Later that week he invited her to breakfast at Jimmy's. She had waffles and ice cream. He had huevos rancheros. The rest is history.
They love being near the water, particularly the ocean if possible. Katelyn likes going in, Mike would rather be on a boat - but hey, compromises. They enjoy outdoor adventures, and recently have taken their adventures to Western Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. When they are not doing those things, they spend their time exploring local breweries and wineries in the area. Sometimes that simply means staying in with a glass of wine, cooking dinner and are testing their green thumb with a urban succulent garden, so far so good.
The couple were engaged on November 13, 2016 at Fort Zachary Taylorin Key West. They were heading to the Keys for a winter getaway, and wanted to make a quick stop in Key West. Unbothered by the swarm of power boaters that invaded the tiny island, at sunset Mike popped the question and Katelyn said yes! "That Keys trip was one of our best memories - and a large part of the reason we chose to get married in the same place."
They had a evening toast on Sunset Pier, where they called their families and shared the news and just knew this was where they wanted to get married. The following day they stopped at St. Mary Star of the Sea and said a prayer. "This set our engagement and journey together off right and was a natural fit for where we wanted to say our vows."
On June 9th, 2018 Katelyn and Mike did in fact exchange their wedding vows at the gorgeous St Mary's Star of the Sea. Guests were delivered in Key West fashion on the Old Town Trolley to the same pier the couple celebrated their engagement just a couple years earlier. The reception was oceanside while margaritas and steel drums flowed freely! The wedding party opted for a stop at Fort Zachary for some post wedding photos. After a short wait for the rain to pass they were then on their way to join cocktail hour back at the Ocean Key!
The setup by Milan and Simply You was stunning against the ocean view of the Hot Tin Roof. After dances the rain just came down! I mean lightening and thundering coming down! Perfect just in time for dinner! Right after dinner the skies cleared and we had one of the BEST sunsets I have ever witnessed!
Congratulations to this beautiful couple!
